Who doesn’t love Steampunk?
If you’re not quite sure what that is, I’ll tell you:
Steampunk is a form of Scifi where you take all of the fashion and technology of the 19th century and apply it to our time period. It represents what it would be like today if we our culture didn’t evolve past the Victorian era of fashion and science. With that being said, it’s a lot of gears, leather, top-hots, goggles, and corsets.
We attended a Steampunk convention in Parkersburg, WV. The convention is called Vandalia-Con and it’s held at the Historic Blennerhassett Hotel. It’s a great experience. The con had workshops, lectures, vendors, and people in fantastic attire.

Now the hotel. The Blennerhassett Hotel opened in 1889! This hotel was opened by the Blennerhassetts, who also had an island named after them. The Blennerhassett Island is a small island in the middle of the Ohio River with their home which was build in 1798. That area of town has retained many of the original historic buildings. There are museums, small shops, and a boat ride to the island. If you get a chance, put it on your list of places to visit!
Anywho, during the con, Greg and I decided to have a photo shoot. We were both done up in our steamy attire (it was 100 degrees outside) and touring the small historic city of Parkersburg, West Virginia.
Here are some of our entertaining photos from the excursion:
